About The Dynamic Editor

In the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, two definitions of the word static include the following:

  1. Showing little change
  2. Standing or fixed in one place

The American English language has proven to be neither of those things. I don’t think editors should be either.

I’m not saying that the English language shouldn’t have rules and structure; based on established precedent, some things are clearly right and some things are clearly wrong. But let’s face it: Americans not the French, and we don’t have an academy solely dedicated to protecting and preserving our language. That is why style guides can recommend different things, and grammarians often disagree on a variety of topics. This means the English language will always be fluid with the ability to constantly change.

That’s what being dynamic is all about.
